Wood – Solid Wood or Engineered

Solid wood flooring is made of solid wood throughout and is usually made of a hardwood species, such as oak, maple, or walnut. One major advantage is over the course of its lifespan, it can be sanded and refinished several times.

Engineered wood flooring, while it looks very similar on the surface,  it is made from a thin layer of hardwood bonded over a substrate of high-quality plywood. This make it less expensive than solid hardwood, engineered flooring can only be sanded and refinished only once since the surface hardwood layer is rather thin.

Tile – Ceramic, Porcelain, Stone

There are many different types of tiles available. Ceramic and porcelain tiles are the most popular, but there are also cement tiles and stone tiles.

Ceramic tile is one of the most common types of tile found in the home because it’s suitable for many applications. With its increased durability, it makes the perfect tile for any room in the house, such as kitchens, bathrooms, or even entryways.

Porcelain tile is the other most common type of tile.  Its popularity comes from its ability to emulate natural stone, brick, or wood without any of the maintenance.  Porcelain can even be used outdoors, as it will not freeze, fade, or crack.
